Match Reports - 15th October 2012
The U14s enjoyed mixed success in the county rugby tournament this week, winning one, and then losing 7-0 in the second.
The U13s had a similar story to the U14s although they lost their first game; they then went on to win the second 21-0. We think that both sides will know be placed in the plate competition.
Walter Yell, Boys’ Sports Captain.
Ratcliffe 1st XI travelled to Trent for a late kick-off after a busy day at Open Morning. This seemed to have an effect on the girls who took a while to get going. Trent took advantage of this and, with the aid of their international players, made the game very difficult in the first-half. The second-half produced a much better performance and although the opposition still had a lot possession, Ratcliffe put in a much better display and drew the second-half. Goal scorers were Eleanor Thomas with two and India Walker. Players of the Match were Anna Thorley and Eleanor Thomas.
The 2nd XI were up and ready for this game after their Captain Amelia Power spent 7 hours stuck in traffic to make it back. Trent started the stronger team; however, after the girls settled into the game, they started to get their passing together and worked really well as a team. The first goal was a well-constructed short corner which Martha Lewis converted. The second goal came shortly after, with a well struck goal from Sibella Chew. The rest of the game was even, featuring plenty of shots and excellent defence from both teams, with Shona Traynor in goal commanding the back four and making excellent saves. Player of the Match goes to Alice Gilbert for some well worked attacking play.
The 3rd XI started brightly, dominating the first 15 minutes of play, and were unlucky not to capitalise. Trent then found their feet in the game and were more clinical with their finishing and took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break. The 3rds showed great character and kept pushing for their first goal. Trent, however, took their opportunities on the counter-attack to eventually win the game 4-0. It was an excellent performance from all, with Emily Hollis a well-deserved Player of the Match.
Despite a much improved team performance, the U15A team lost an evenly matched game, 3-0. Players of the Match were the defence who kept the strong Trent side at bay for most of the game.
The U15B team showed excellent discipline throughout the game, working well as a team. At half-time the hard work was paying off. Ratcliffe frustrated Trent with excellent defensive play, particularly from Nima Patel in goal, and worried them with some excellent attacking play, led by Poppy Williams. 0-0 was a fair reflection of the play at half-time. Trent came out strongly in the second-half and took a 1-0 lead. Ratcliffe took a while to respond and conceded two more in quick succession. Despite a late excellent effort from the Ratcliffe girls, the score remained a 3-0.
In their county hockey tournament, the U14 team faced tough opposition; despite losing three games, they used the experience gained to beat Loughborough High School 1-0 with an excellent goal from Mia Mordecai Smith. Greta McKean was Player of the Tournament. An exceptionally strong Trent side put the U14s under immense pressure in the D for the whole game. Tenacious tackling was vital and despite losing, Ratcliffe showed some good passages of play and Holly Blount was unlucky not to score after a 50m solo run. Captain, Katie Winston, was Player of the Match.
Rebecca Taylor, Girls’ Sports Captain.
