Boarders’ Boat Trip Sunday 21st May
In beautiful weather, myself and Mr Sharpe (Skipper), set off to Pillings Lock Marina in Barrow upon Soar with ten crew members from boarding to collect our craft for a day on the River Soar. We set sail at 10am from the Marina in our boat: ‘Jo-Anne’, heading for The Waterside Inn at Mountsorrel, our venue for lunch. After a safety talk from Mr Sharpe, each member of our crew took turns to steer the boat through the waterways, taking in the scenery as we went. We negotiated two sets of locks on our journey and all the students thoroughly enjoyed helping – each having a job to perform to get our boat through these amazing feats of engineering and onto the next stretch of river. This included turning the ‘windlass’, pushing the huge lock gates and holding the boat at the side while everyone jumped back on board, all under the close eye of our Skipper, not to mention waving at everyone we passed on the way.
A very enjoyable day out was had by all, and we hope to do another one next year.
