Business Language Champions, “The word is not enough”
On 15th November, two groups of Year 10 French and German students took part in a language event organised by the Business Language Champions in collaboration with GCHQ. The participating students were: Harry Cusack, Anuj Savani, Sophie Brown, Archie Heaney, Stan Chell and Dalila Watson (German team) and Ihuoma Osuji, Danni Hendry, Isabella Mulvihill, Eleanor Shaw, Lauren Brown and Hadia Hussain (French team).
During the day, students had a talk from a group of language analysts from GCHQ, a session on learning Korean, Arabic or Mandarin and spent time involved in a challenge which included deciphering codes into French or German. They also presented some of their findings on the main communication and transport networks in France as well as spending time designing a “spy game”. Well done to all participants, with particular congratulations to the French team who beat nine other teams to win the overall competition. Their prize is a visit to Bletchley Park which will take place later in the year.
