CCF Update: 10th November
Over the half term 4 senior CCF Army cadets attended the demanding Senior Cadet Instructors Course at Beckingham. Cpl Owen Sommerville, Cpl Arran Grant, Cpl Grace Clark and Cpl Luke Chilton spent the week preparing and delivering lessons to their peers. The course was extremely challenging and tiring with very long days. However the 4 cadets performed extremely well and achieved good passes. The unit congratulates them and looks forward to the input of their newly learnt skills.
On the morning of Saturday 14th October, five RAF Cadets accompanied by Plt Off Helen Grant travelled to RAF Syerston, home of the 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron. As part of the new Progressive Training Syllabus 2017, they spent the day undergoing lessons about the principles of flight, how the gliders operate and an in-depth health and safety talk, not to mention all having a go in the flight simulator. Whereas when they cadets fly with AEF, the gliders involve a more hands on approach which included manoeuvring the winch cables and holding the wing tips as the glider is drawn by the winch at the other end of the runway (all under the close supervision of the VGS staff). This was a great day for all and despite being quite windy they all really enjoyed their experience. Well done to Cpl Tom Cusack, LCpl Josh Bellamy, Cdt Jon Bellamy, Cdt James Howling and Cdt Ben McCahill who were all awarded their Blue Wings Gliding certificates and badges. They are now looking forward to undertaking their Bronze Wings as soon as dates are released from 644 VGS.
