Future chef 2016 – The Final!
Huge congratulations to Yasmina Lock of Year 8 who represented not only Ratcliffe College but the East Midlands at the final of the FutureChef Competition on Monday 14th March at Westminster Kingsway College, London. There were over 8125 contestants in the competition and for Yasmina to get down to the last 12 contestants is a truly fantastic achievement. She was one of the youngest contestants in the final phase of the competition this year, the competition is open to 12 to 16 year olds.
Yasmina’s task was to make a 2 course meal to include a main course and a dessert in two hours, she was judged by a number of high profile chefs. Yasmina had to choose what to make from a given list of ingredients, which she was given just a few weeks before the final. Yasmina was mentored by Neil Hardy, head chef of Derby County Football Club, she visited his kitchen and Neil guided her with her knife skills and helped her devise and practise her food choices for the final.
Yasmina’s dishes for the final were:
Main: Pan seared fillet of salmon with lemon buerre blanc sauce, pomme puree with sundried tomatoes, buttered stem broccoli and sautéed oyster mushrooms with chorizo.
Dessert: Almond crunch with a raspberry and vanilla cream in a dark chocolate sphere with hot caramel sauce.
Yasmina received some outstanding feedback from the judges, who stated that they were amazed by her talent at such a young age and her calmness throughout the final.
Yasmina we are so proud of you, what a truly fantastic achievement. Yasmina received her prizes of £100, an embroidered apron, commemorative plate, personalised embroidered chefs jacket, a skull cap and cookery books.
