A schoolgirl has won a competition to design road safety banners.

Seven-year-old Katherine McCrindell, from Ratcliffe Junior School, beat hundreds of entries from pupils aged four to 11-years-old to win first place. Her eye-catching banner will be created and displayed at her school during Road Safety Week this week.

The competition was organised by school uniform supplier Recognition Express and road safety charity Brake.

Brake spokesman Richard Coteau said: “Congratulations to Katherine and Ratcliffe College Junior School. Their banner design sends a powerful message.

“We urge all drivers to take notice of Katherine’s advice and keep speed at 20mph, especially by schools.”

Headteacher Caroline Rigby said: “Road safety is an important issue for our school.”
