Prep School Sports Report – 16th November
On Wednesday 15th November the U10 boys brightened up a dreary autumnal afternoon with some scintillating rugby that would have warmed even the coldest of rugby hearts. The boys travelled to Trent College to play in the annual Elms Sevens Festival. The format of the afternoon saw the boys placed into a group of four schools. They were to play each of those schools once throughout the afternoon.
Unlike Tournament play there was no overall winner, no need to qualify from the group stages the focus was on enjoyment and experiencing playing Rugby against different opposition. With this in mind the boys set themselves a challenge for the afternoon and that was to remain unbeaten in their three group matches.
The boys took to the field with a clear set of objectives and a game plan based on two weeks of dedicated practice and hard work. The game plan was simple to explain, stop the opposition scoring and retain enough possession to enable our expansive rugby to unlock the most tenacious defence and score tries.
I am delighted to report that the boys showed a professional level of endeavour, technical execution and tactical awareness to score 15 tries during the afternoon against The Elms, Derby Grammar and Grace Dieu respectively conceding not a single try in the process!
This was an outstanding afternoon of Ratcliffe Rugby at its best and a true reflection of the hard work this group of boys had put in on the training pitch prior to the festival.
Well done to all of the boys whose unified strength was their greatest asset.
