Ratcliffe Brings out the Best – GCSE Results

Ratcliffe College is delighted with its very impressive 2015 GCSE results, which reinforced the comments from the School’s recent Inspection, that the attainment of the students across all external examinations is excellent.  Headmaster, Mr Gareth Lloyd commented: “Teaching a wide spectrum of abilities, our examination results have yet again proven that we stretch the most able and support those with additional needs.  I am immensely proud of my students’ achievements and of the unstinting commitment of my colleagues to each and every child.”

 Highest achieving students scored 11 A*s; one such student, Charlie Nicholson, said “I am overwhelmed with my results.  The teaching has been fantastic and I am thrilled for all my friends, too.  I am now really looking forward to Sixth Form studies, and hopefully in time going to Cambridge.”  

 Emilia Lawden, who only started at Ratcliffe College two years ago in Year 10, also achieved 11 A*s.  She said, “I’m quite in shock, really.  I thought I’d done alright, but over the summer you start to think that you’ve done worse.  The Further Maths first paper was really hard but the second paper went better.  I’m going on to take the three Sciences and Maths at ‘A’ Level and hopefully read Medicine at Cambridge to go on to be a Geneticist.  The teachers are amazing – when you get stuck, there is always someone there to help.”  Mrs Bridget Lawden, Emilia’s mother, said, “The teachers are wonderful, they always go the extra mile”.

 One of the loveliest comments came from another top performer, Kate Scarborough, who said, “My only complaint is that my cheeks are hurting because I can’t stop smiling!!

In the very difficult Further Mathematics examination, which is far more challenging than GCSE Mathematics, 22% of the entire cohort achieved A or above (including A**), significantly bucking the national trend.  Along with 40% of all grades being A/A* and with 90% of grades being A*- C, Ratcliffe College is delighted with the value added performance evidenced by its excellent teaching and learning.
