Ratcliffe College Boarders Top the Charts!

Ratcliffe College celebrated another impressive set of ‘A’ level results this summer, including 15% of all students obtaining grades A*A*A or better, and the overall results placing the school in the top 10% nationally for value added.

Two of our boarding students obtained the best ‘A’ level results in the College.

Helena Yu obtained four A* grades and one A (in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chinese and Biology, respectively) and will be taking a place at Imperial College London to read Biomedical Sciences.

Matthew Harris passed all four of his ‘A’ levels (Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics) at grade A*, comfortably exceeding the entry requirement to read Chemical Engineering at Churchill College, Cambridge University.

In common with other really impressive people, Matthew and Helena were both genuinely modest about their academic abilities – and they both found time to keep involved in a range of activities.

Living far from her home in Beijing, living and working in her second language, Helena fully understood the challenges facing all students new to boarding, and especially those from different cultures. It is to her great credit that all the younger girl boarders viewed Helena very much as an ‘older sister’ who would always have time to talk and offer assistance.

Matthew, too, was a very popular member of the Boarding community, very interested in both academic societies and sport. He also spent some time out of school, offering assistance to young people with speech impediments – a challenge he personally experienced at times.
