Sports Report – January 11th
Rugby Leicester Tigers Rugby Development Player Programme
Congratulations to the following students who have retained their place in the Leicester Tigers Rugby Development Player Programme for 2016 after a series of gruelling training sessions and trial matches.
U16 Harrison Grimmett
U15 Henry Wells, Rory Stoker
U14 Joseph Collier, William Westwood
Over the weekend, the Ratcliffe equestrian team showed off their talent with 3 out of our 4 teams qualifying for the National Championships, a superb achievement. The 70cm team was comprised of Madeline Dunstan (Year 5), Georgie Daynes (Year 5), Erin Somerville (Year 7) and Kate Woodhouse (Year 9), who all got double clears and as a team came 2nd in the whole class, therefore winning the Leicestershire section and qualifying for the National Championships. Madeline and Georgie were also the youngest riders across the whole event. The 80cm team, with Madeline and Georgie again, joined by Brooke (Year 7) and Jade England (Year 9) came 4th in the class, also wining their Leicestershire section and again qualifying for the National Championships. The 90cm team consisting of India Beresford (Year 10), Jade, Maddy Lindop (Year 8) and Olly Jackson (Year 9) just missed out on being placed but managed to redeem themselves in the 1 metre class as India, Maddy, Jade and Olly all jumped clear (the only school across the Counties to do so) to gain 1st place and a ticket to the Championships! All the students and horses were complete stars, representing the School brilliantly in both their behaviour and riding. We qualified based on their ability to jump steadily and carefully, bringing home the double clears needed for the teams to go through. This was a phenomenal result as it was a prestigious event; on behalf of all the team, we would like to thank Professor Sarah Freeman for organising it all for us.
Go Gold Awards
Well done to Olivia Gilchrist, Olivia Back and Niamh Noble who have all been given Go Gold Podium awards again this year, by Leicestershire and Rutland Sport.
Congratulations to Niamh Noble who has been selected for the England U15 Fencing Squad. Niamh will be part of the Epee discipline and will now travel to Poland in March to represent her country. Niamh also entered the Cambridge Winter Open during the holidays. She was up against adult fencers, but despite this, through mature fencing, she performed well to battle through to the semi-finals and win a bronze medal.
Well done to Olivia Back who attended the England U18 training camp over Christmas at Bisham Abbey. Olivia’s U16 Leicester Ladies’ side are also through to the U16s’ indoor finals after winning their Outdoor group.
