28th January – Sports Reports
With all of the Boys’ Hockey cancelled for a second week running, the hockey staff organised an Indoor Tournament for team players in Years 10-13. 28 boys were divided into 4 teams for a round-robin format. As well as being great fun for all concerned, the staff were very impressed by the standard of play on show. After a number of closely fought games, Charlie Dolans’ Dark Blue team (catchy name) emerged as worthy winners with 3 wins out of 3. Tim Schulz was nominated as the Most Valuable Player by the coaching staff and Dominic Warne beat Brad Parker in a penalty shuffle to win the Top Goal Scorer award after Dom, Brad, Charlie Dolan, Rory Payne, Ben Shaw and Fred Notman all tied with 2 goals each.
Thanks to all of the students for turning out, and to Mr Willcock, Mr Wildsmith, Mr Langley and Mr Butler for their help in running the tournament.
Walter Yell, Boys’ Sports Captain.
A convincing 32-5 win for the 1st team against Welbeck came from good passages of play, combined with an impressive number of turn-overs. This gave the shooters, Rose Borrajo and Sorcha Grant, plenty of opportunities to put the ball away. Player of the Match, Anna Thorley, who has just moved into her defensive position this season, had an outstanding game; this, combined well with Ella Delargy, gave Welbeck few chances to score. Despite the lack of match practice owing to the weather, this was a pleasing performance from the whole team.
Rebecca Taylor, Girls’ Sports Captain.
