1st XV

The 1st XV continued their terrific form with a 32-5 win over Wrekin College, with tries flowing thick and fast. Sam Bellamy continued his outstanding form this season with a score under the posts, adding to Matt Howard’s earlier penalty.  Ratcliffe were making some good tactical decisions early on and James Richardson benefited from a scrum deep in opposition territory, with the Ratcliffe’s backs taking full advantage.  Dominic Warne and Daniel Lewis showed quick feet and Walter Yell broke free to score in the corner.  Tom Headley’s tackling was outstanding and James Head looked dangerous throughout. Man of the Match went to Will Watts who has been ever present all season, both in attack and defence.

2nd XV

Josh Breen opened the scoring after only 3 minutes with a well taken dummy and quality finish. This was followed after 12 minutes with James Horner, who, in Samoan style crashed through stern defences, with Josh Breen converting. Liam Harold then added to proceedings with a well taken move off the back row. Josh Breen was on the score sheet again after some slick handling by the backs.  Further scores by Ed Raynes and a second by Liam Harold just before half-time, made it a comfortable 39-0 lead at the interval. A further well taken score by Brad Parker extended the lead, but this spurred the opposition into action with a well taken try after some unyielding defence and big hits from Captain Patrick Joy and Harry Baum who busied himself at the base of many rucks. The fight back from Wrekin was short-lived; however, as James Horner straightened his line to run in from the half-way line and Joe Dickinson gassed down the right touchline to complete the scoring for the afternoon with the results a 59-5 win. a pleasing afternoon’s work for the side.

U15A

The U15s lost only their second game of the season with a very flat performance against Wrekin College. A more exuberant start to the second-half pulled them back to within 2 points, only for Wrekin to pull away again. Captain Charlie Pickering was Man of the Match

U15/14 B

In a good game the U15/14B lost 24 -12 to a bigger, stronger Wrekin side. The teams’ playing styles were very different. Wrekin kept the ball tight with a pick and go game whilst Ratcliffe played a more attractive passing game, regularly getting the ball out to the wings. Unfortunately, the team were not able to lay down a strong enough platform up front in the first-half to win the game. Men of the Match were Archie Herrick who had an excellent all-round game and Peter Cotter who scored a very good individual try.

U14

The U14s narrowly lost in difficult circumstances with many decisions not going their way. The score was 24-19 with Ganesh Thapa scoring two tries and picking up Man of the Match.

Walter Yell, Boys’ Sports Captain.

Show Jumping

Congratulations to Lauren Bates who competed in a school show jumping competition at Broomfield College last weekend. Lauren had a very successful competition winning both the 90cm and 1m classes.

Ice Skating

We must also congratulate Emily Cheetham who attended the British Ice Skating Championships held recently where both of Emily’s teams, Novice (Shadows) and Junior (Icicles) won their respective competitions and consequently both teams are 2012 British Champions.
