Sports Report 5th June
The U15 rounders team hosted Our Lady Convent mid-week winning 7 rounders to 4 ½. In the first innings Ratciffe restricted the opposition to only one rounder. The second innings was much closer; however, there was some clever fielding as well as some good running from Ratcliffe which meant the girls came away with a great win. Player of the Match goes to Betsy Pole who was influential in both innings.
On Tuesday the U14 team played against Our Lady Convent and successfully won 8 ½ to 5 ½. The girls all played very well with a definite improvement in communication across the whole team since their last fixture. Mimi Khan batted extremely well which added pressure onto the opposition. As bowler, Aimee Cleminson varied her bowling which in turn proved very effective within the second innings. Player of the Match goes to Lauren Brown whose quick decision making resulted in numerous of OLC players out on 4th post.
The Under 13s travelled to Our Ladies Convent School for a midweek rounders fixture. After a good batting performance from all girls, Ratclife set a good first innings score for the Convent to chase. The girls initially struggled in the field, with some questionable decision making and slow reactions. However, Player of the Match, Annie Bridgwood led the charge, with safe hands, good decision making and good communication, to refocus the team. Going in to the second innings Ratcliffe had a comfortable lead, and again batted well, with Elise Atkinson and Rachel Astill both scoring well to put the game out of reach for OLC, with Ratcliffe eventually winning 9 1/2 to 4. 1/2.
On Monday the U13B team successfully beat Our Lady Convent 8 ½ to 6 ½ in a very tight game. Both teams aimed to add pressure at 1st post which consequently meant batters had to be quick out of the box. This also made the girls be more tactful as to where to strike the ball as a batter, something which Olivia Crawley and Megan Geraghty did well. Jasmine Jarvis displayed good decision making playing 3rd deep, actively backing up other players especially around 3rd and 4th post. Player of the Match goes to Daata Apiafi who similarly excellent decision making but also great communication with her team when fielding and batting.
Jade and Brooke England (Year 10 and 8) competed for Rearsby Lodge Riding Club at Rockingham International Horse Trials Riding Club show jumping competition. There were 29 teams competing, and in each team, their riders jumped a different height course, including an optional ‘joker’ final fence for extra points. It was a fantastic experience competing in a ring next to the professional riders. Jade’s team won and Brooke’s team was 6th, with both girls clearing their ‘joker’ fence, and a lovely write up from Rockingham press team: http://www.rockinghamcastlehorsetrials.com/latest-news/riding-club-team-showjumping/
Ratcliffe equestrian team members Brooke England (Year 8), and Georgie Daynes (Year 6) competed together as part of a Quorn Hunt Pony Club team in the Belvoir Team showjumping competition at Arena UK on 30th May.
